COLD FEET, a traditional mystery by Karen Pullen

Cold Feet is available in paper. McIntyre’s Books in Pittsboro has copies, or you can order it from an online retailer. $15

My story “No Falling Ribbons” is in a forthcoming anthology Stuck in the Middle: Writing That Holds You in Suspense (Main Street Rag Press), edited by Molly McCaffrey and David Bell. In the Advance Sale period, you can buy it for $9.50. Some awesome writing therein!

Looks like Cold Heart, the sequel to Cold Feet, will be out in January 2017. My favorite NC mystery writer, Margaret Maron, has read it, and says: “Fans of the regional mystery, rejoice! SBI Special Agent Stella Lavender is back, and the murder that sets off the action is even more engrossing than her first. I loved getting to see more of Stella’s sexy grandmother and the people who populate Essex County.”

My short stories were published here, there, and everywhere. In September 2017, they’ll be all together in one collection, Restless Dreams, published by GusGus, an imprint of Bedazzled Ink.

COLD FEET, a traditional mystery. SOMETIMES DEATH IS THE ONLY WAY TO SECURE A SECRET. Special Agent Stella Lavender is looking forward to an elegant outdoor wedding, a much-needed change of pace from her adrenaline-fueled work as an undercover drug agent. On the grassy lawn of the Rosscairn Castle B&B, she waits with the couple’s family and friends for the ceremony to begin. But one of them has other plans, and as the guests grow restive, the satin-clad bride is dying most horribly. When the sheriff asks for Stella’s assistance, she’s energized by the opportunity to prove herself. But why would someone kill Justine, the bride, on her wedding day? Even as a paranoid drug dealer seeks to silence her, Stella must unravel a complex knot of obsession, grief and secrets before Justine’s murderer claims another victim.

Publisher’s Weekly “Stella Lavender [is] the appealing 26-year-old heroine of Pullen’s absorbing first mystery … Readers will hope to see a lot more of Stella in future installments.”

BookList “The fast pace; multiple plot strands, which work together nicely; and the well-drawn characters, including strong-willed, intelligent Stella, distinguish this promising new series.”

Library Journal Review “Pullen’s debut introduces an engaging new detective meeting the challenge of her first homicide . . . I can’t wait to head back to North Carolina and meet up with Stella and Fern again.”
